Motivation is a weather system. Habits are the roof. The slump arrives for every athlete who trains through dark mornings — the fix is not a new playlist, it is a smaller promise you can keep on a grey Thursday.
Shrink the contract
Write the minimum: shoes on, five minutes of movement, lights off. Most slumps end in the first four minutes because the hard part was beginning, not the work itself.
Keep the calendar slot even when you travel. A hotel hallway walk still counts as keeping the appointment with yourself.
“Show up for ten minutes. Pride can negotiate after you start.”
Borrow a room, not a mood
Train with a class, a coach, or a friend who will not accept a last-minute cancel. Social gravity beats willpower when the weather is ugly.
If the slump lasts more than two weeks and sleep or appetite has changed, talk to someone. Training plates should not hide a health problem.
