Red Room

Photographed by Lena Marsh for Maison Orrel. Three days, one Milan apartment painted the colour of a lipstick from 1974.

Lena painted the whole apartment herself the week before. Walls, ceiling, radiators, door frames. "If you only paint the background, the red stays behind the model," she said. "I wanted it to touch everything."

“By day two nobody noticed the red any more. That's when the pictures started.”

Over three days she shot eighty portraits on medium format. Twelve made the magazine. The contact sheets, with her red pencil marks, are now part of the archive.
